Description

Bactigras 10cm x 10cm is a sterile, medicated paraffin gauze dressing designed for use in wound and burn care. It contains chlorhexidine acetate, an antiseptic that helps reduce bacterial contamination of the dressing and wound surface.

The paraffin base helps prevent the dressing from sticking directly to the wound, which can make dressing changes more comfortable when used appropriately.

Uses of Bactigras

Bactigras may be used as a wound dressing for:

  • Minor wounds and abrasions
  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Minor burns
  • Skin graft donor and recipient sites
  • Ulcers and other superficial wounds
  • Wounds where a non-adherent dressing is required

Benefits

  • Provides a protective layer over the wound
  • Helps reduce dressing adherence to the wound surface
  • Contains an antiseptic agent to help reduce bacterial contamination
  • Helps maintain a moist wound environment
  • Can make dressing removal easier and more comfortable
  • Suitable as part of professional wound-care management

How to Use

  1. Wash hands and prepare the wound according to appropriate wound-care instructions.
  2. Open the sterile package carefully.
  3. Remove the protective coverings without touching the dressing unnecessarily.
  4. Place the Bactigras dressing over the wound.
  5. Cover with an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing and secure in place.
  6. Change the dressing according to the wound condition and healthcare professional's instructions.

Do not use the dressing if the package is damaged or if sterility has been compromised.

Possible Side Effects & Precautions

Some individuals may develop:

  • Local skin irritation
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Contact sensitivity or allergic reaction

Discontinue use and seek medical advice if significant irritation or an allergic reaction occurs.

Bactigras contains chlorhexidine, so individuals with known chlorhexidine sensitivity should avoid its use. Do not use it as a substitute for professional treatment of deep, infected or serious wounds.

Pharmacist / Wound-Care Advice

Use Bactigras according to the wound-care plan provided by a doctor, nurse or pharmacist. It is generally used with a suitable secondary dressing, particularly where wound exudate needs to be absorbed.

For wounds showing increasing redness, swelling, warmth, pus, worsening pain, fever or other signs of infection, seek medical attention promptly.

For significant burns, deep wounds, animal bites, heavily contaminated wounds or wounds that do not heal normally, professional medical assessment is recommended.
