Cefixime 400mg capsules exhibit their antibacterial activity through a specific mechanism of action. Cefixime primarily inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to and blocking the activity of penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential enzymes responsible for cross-linking peptidoglycan strands in the bacterial cell wall. By inhibiting PBPs, Cefixime disrupts the formation of a strong and stable cell wall, leading to weakened bacterial cell structure and ultimately cell lysis. This mechanism is particularly effective against susceptible bacteria, as it interferes with a vital process required for their growth and survival.

The following are the uses of Cefixime 400mg Capsule:

• Used for treating bacterial infections, particularly those caused by susceptible bacteria.
• Used for respiratory tract infections like pneumonia and bronchitis.
• Used for treating urinary tract infections, effectively eliminating bacteria.
• Used for skin and soft tissue infections, promoting healing.
• Used for bone and joint infections, providing targeted treatment.
• Used for preventing and controlling infections during surgery.
• Used for managing severe infections that require high-dose antibiotics.

Dose must be taken according to doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. Adult dose (For chronic bronchitis, otitis media, gonorrhea, urinary tract infection): 400mg daily divided dose every 12 to 24 hours. Pediatric dose (For Chronic Bronchitis, Otitis media, Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis, Gonorrhea, Urinary tract infection): Children of age 6 months to 12 years, body weight is not more than 45kg; then take 8mg/kg/day in single dose or in divided doses after 12 hours. For 12 years above age: weight is more than 45kg; then take 400mg once.
