What It Is

Primary Uses & Benefits
Cefiget treats bacterial (not viral) infections, including:

Severe allergic reactions, including swelling of the face/lips/tongue, hives, or anaphylaxis—especially in those allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins

Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea or pseudomembranous colitis → may cause bloody or severe diarrhea

Rare cases of hemolytic anemia, liver function changes, elevated amylase, or encephalopathy reported

Dark, tarry stools, blood in stool or urine, unexplained bleeding/bruising → possible hematological or hepatic concerns

Seizures, especially in patients with kidney impairment or very high doses
& Dosage

Children ≥6 months to 12 years (≤45 kg): 8 mg/kg/day, typically once or twice daily orally

Older children & adults: usually switch to tablet form; syrup may be used in adolescents if preferred
