Description

GLUSIMET 50mg/1000mg Tablet contains a combination of Sitagliptin 50mg and Metformin 1000mg. It is an oral antidiabetic medicine used with diet and exercise to help improve blood glucose control in adults with Type 2 diabetes. The two medicines work through complementary mechanisms to help regulate blood sugar levels.

Uses

  • Helps control blood glucose in Type 2 diabetes
  • Used when combination therapy with Sitagliptin and Metformin is appropriate
  • Supports improved glycemic control alongside diet and exercise
  • May help improve long-term blood glucose measurements such as HbA1c

Benefits

  • Combines two complementary diabetes medicines in one tablet
  • Metformin helps reduce glucose production by the liver and improve insulin sensitivity
  • Sitagliptin helps increase glucose-dependent insulin release and reduce glucagon activity
  • Convenient combination therapy for eligible Type 2 diabetes patients

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Gas or bloating
  • Headache

Low blood sugar may occur, particularly when GLUSIMET is used with insulin or a sulfonylurea.

Important: Metformin rarely can cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis. Seek urgent medical attention for severe weakness, unusual muscle pain, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness, persistent vomiting or severe abdominal discomfort.

Pharmacist Advice

Take GLUSIMET exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is generally taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. Swallow the tablet whole with water unless your doctor gives different instructions.

Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Kidney function should be assessed before and during treatment, as Metformin and Sitagliptin dosing may need adjustment in people with impaired kidney function.

Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, heart failure, a history of pancreatitis, or if you regularly consume alcohol.

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption because it may increase the risk of Metformin-associated lactic acidosis.

Monitor blood glucose as advised and continue your recommended diet and physical-activity plan
