Sita Met 50 mg / 850 mg Tablets 14s – Dual Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes

Overview
Sita Met combines Sitagliptin 50 mg (a DPP‑4 inhibitor) with Metformin HCl 850 mg (a biguanide) in a single film-coated tablet. This fixed-dose combination is prescribed to adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are inadequate, and/or when prescribing both agents separately is preferable

Key Benefits & Mechanism

  • Complementary action: Sitagliptin boosts incretin hormones (GLP‑1, GIP) to improve insulin secretion and reduce glucagon, while Metformin suppresses hepatic glucose production, enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity, and slows glucose absorption from the gut

  • Effective in lowering both fasting and post‑prandial blood glucose, and helps reduce HbA1c levels over time

💊 Indications & Usage

  • For type 2 diabetes management in adults not achieving glycemic control with metformin or sitagliptin alone.

  • Recommended as part of combination therapy when monotherapy falls short or multiple mechanisms are needed

📋 Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: Typical initial dose is 1 tablet (50 mg/850 mg) twice daily with meals. Dose may be adjusted based on response, up to a maximum of sitagliptin 100 mg/day and metformin 2000 mg/day

  • Renal impairment: Assess eGFR before starting. Combination is contraindicated if eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m²; not recommended if 30–45 mL/min/1.73 m² unless benefits justify risk

⚠️ Precautions & Side Effects

  • Common: GI upset (nausea, diarrhea), metallic taste, headache, upper respiratory symptoms, potential hypoglycemia (especially if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)

  • Serious (rare): Lactic acidosis with metformin in predisposed patients, hypersensitivity reactions (rash, angioedema), pancreatitis, elevated liver enzymes, vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term useContraindicated: Type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic dysfunction, recent iodinated contrast use without pause, and known allergy to components

📦 Packaging & Availability

  • Comes in 14 film-coated tablets per strip, often sold as 2 × 7‑ or 14‑count packs in Pakistan
