Indications & Dosage

Indicated for type 2 diabetes in adults (≥ 18 yrs), as an adjunct to diet, exercise, and other oral antidiabetic drugs when glycemic control is inadequate

Typical dosage:

Once daily or twice daily, depending on clinical response and tolerance (e-pharmabook suggests starting at one tablet once or twice a day, with dose adjustment as needed)

Tablets should be swallowed whole, taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects
⚠️ Side Effects & Precautions

Common adverse effects: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, headache, dry mouth, back pain

Rare but serious risks: lactic acidosis (especially in renal/hepatic impairment), hypoglycemia (when combined with sulfonylureas/insulin), allergic reactions, joint pain, heart rhythm issues, Stevens–Johnson syndrome HIL

Contraindications include: type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal/hepatic disease, cardiac/respiratory failure, alcoholism, dehydration, hypersensitivity to components
