What Is TREPTIN?

Uses and Benefits

• Indication: Used as an adjunct to diet and exercise for improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus 

• Mechanism: Inhibits DPP‑4 enzyme to maintain endogenous incretin hormones (GLP‑1, GIP), thereby increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon release in a glucose‑dependent manner 

• Dosing Convenience: Taken once weekly—usually on the same day each week—supporting better adherence than daily antidiabetic therapies 

Clinical studies have shown equivalent efficacy compared to daily gliptins like vildagliptin, with significant HbA1c reduction and improved glycemic stability 

 Dosage & Administration

• Standard Dose: 100 mg orally, once weekly, with or without food

• Renal Impairment:

  • Moderate (eGFR 30–59): consider dose reduction to 50 mg weekly.

  • Severe (eGFR <30): reduce to ~25 mg weekly and monitor closely

  • Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution; not significantly metabolized by liver but monitoring advised
