Albendazole syrup/suspension works by selectively binding to the colchicine-sensitive site of β-tubulin, which is a major component of microtubules in the cells of susceptible parasites. This binding leads to the inhibition of microtubule polymerization and disruption of the cytoskeleton, resulting in the immobilization and eventual death of the susceptible helminths. The primary effect is on the adult worms, leading to their depletion, while also preventing the development of the larval stages.
